I decided to join in on the dorm’s Humans vs. Zombies game. The two teams are basically the Humans and the Zombies. In order for the Zombies to win, they have to transform all Humans into Zombies. The mortals succeed by depriving the Zombies of their food or by completing the last challenge. The players on the Human team get really serious about the game. Many of us work on modifications for our plastic guns, giving them increased accuracy and a longer range than they would have straight out of the package. Other players go all out and buy special equipment like grappling hooks (which they hardly ever use), mobile motion sensor alarms, and thermal night vision goggles.
Many of the objectives of this game take place under cover of the night (keep this area of the school safe from zombies for a half hour so you win the game, etc.); so with night vision, seeing the others gives you an extra advantage. That’s where the thermal night vision goggles come in–I’ve seen Steven, my old roommate, make it until the last day by using those night vision goggles of his. He happens to be the guy who also carries a grappling hook (which he has never used) on missions. Looking at it that way, I guess maybe the goggles don’t have that much impact on how he plays the game. But that is not really the point. It is more the enjoyment of escaping from reality and killing a few zombies, by completely losing yourself in the game and having a wonderful adventure with mates.
